Antonio Rogerio Nogueira signs with Affliction

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, the twin brother of current interim UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, will compete for the Affliction promotion.

The signing was announced at the Affliction: Banned public press conference at the Westfield Mall in Century City, California.

The Brazilian light-heavyweight was available to Affliction with the closure of the Canadian-based Hardcore Championship Fighting promotion. Nogueira had signed a three-fight deal with HCF, but was only able to fulfill one, a TKO victory over Todd Gouwenberg on February 1.

In February 2007, the 31-year-old was surprisingly knocked out in 23 seconds by Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou at PRIDE 33. Afterwards, Nogueira took a year off mixed martial arts to focus on boxing, winning a Bronze medal at the 2007 Pan-American Games before signing with HCF.

Nogueira competed ten times for PRIDE and recorded big wins against Dan Henderson and Kazushi Sakuraba.

Noguiera (13-3) is expected to compete on the undercard of Affliction: Banned at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on Saturday, July 19. The main card will air live on pay-per-view while the undercard will be televised live on Fox Sports Net.
