Will Fedor Emelianenko Join EliteXC?

With Fedor Emelianenko, generally considered the top heavyweight in mixed martial arts, currently a free agent, there is increasing talk that he could wind up signing on with the upstart EliteXC organization.

EliteXC, which will become the first MMA organization on network television when it puts a show on CBS on May 31, has reportedly offered Emelianenko a four-fight contract that would put him on the first two EliteXC-CBS shows. Getting Emelianenko would be a stunning achievement for EliteXC and for CBS.

In fact, you could make a case that as long as Randy Couture is out of action, EliteXC would have the sport's two most interesting heavyweights if they added Emelianenko to the stable of fighters headlined by Kimbo Slice. You certainly couldn't make the case that EliteXC had the two best heavyweights -- no one would seriously suggest that Slice is as goos as UFC champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira -- but in a weight class where everyone is talking about the guy who isn't fighting, it would be a very big deal for EliteXC to have two well-known heavyweights who are.
