Fedor Emelianenko vs. Choi Hong-man in Tokyo New Year's Eve Live Blog

Welcome to our Fedor Emelianenko vs. Choi Hong-Man live blog.

It's 10:30 p.m. in Tokyo and 8:30 a.m. in the Eastern time zone in the United States, meaning the folks in Japan are just an hour and a half away from 2008 and just moments away from seeing the best MMA fighter in the world take on his biggest opponent yet.

The event is being broadcast live in the United States on HDNet, and for the most part I think they're doing a good job, although they're in serious need of an English translator to tell us what the people are saying in the ring.

Live updates on the fight are after the jump.

Choi Hong-man is making his way to the ring, and yes, he is enormous.
Choi was a good fighter in K-1, but he's very inexperienced in MMA, and I think his odds of beating Fedor are about as good as Buster Douglas's odds of beating Mike Tyson in another fight in Tokyo.

Fedor has made his first appearance out of the dressing room and is heading toward the ring.

Fedor and Choi are now both in the ring, and the Tokyo crowd has erupted.

The size discrepancy is amazing; Choi is one of the world's biggest athletes in any sport.

This fight is underway, and Fedor shoots in immediately. They're down and Choi is on top. Fedor has the advantage any time they're on the ground, but the enormous Choi has the huge size advantage. I thought Fedor was going to get the arm bar, but they stood back up.

Fedor is bruised in the face. Choi landed a solid strike. But Fedor locks the arm and that's it! It's over! Choi taps out!

Fedor Emelianenko defeats Choi Hong-man by submission.
