UFC President Dana White on Randy Couture: 'He Definitely Belongs to Me'

Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White made extensive comments at his UFC 77 press conference about the big issue facing UFC, and White insists that there's no way heavyweight champion Randy Couture can fight for any other mixed martial arts organization before he fulfills the remaining two fights on his UFC contract. Mr. Sunshine quotes White:

"He lost twice to Chuck Liddell. And then he called me up after a year and said I want to come out of retirement...I'd like to re-work my contract. He just signed a contract that he was thrilled with eight months ago. He never came to me and said can we do a new contract!"

On a possible fight outside the UFC White said, "He definitely belongs to me. He just signed a new contract eight months ago."

Meanwhile, what's going to happen to Couture's heavyweight title? Although Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports reported that the winner of Saturday's Brandon Vera-Tim Sylvia fight at UFC 77 would meet Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira for the vacant heavyweight title early next year, White said he's not ready to concede that Couture is done yet. White says he still wants Couture to defend his belt. Couture and White appear likely to end up in court.
