UFC Lightweight Champ Sean Sherk Tests Positive for Steroids

Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight title holder Sean Sherk tested positive for steroids at UFC 73 -- and his opponent, Hermes Franca, did too.

That's absolutely terrible news for UFC. The sport of mixed martial arts is still not considered legitimate by many fans, and the belief that its best fighters are fueled by steroids is one of the reasons. And Sherk was supposed to be one of the rising stars of UFC. Now he's likely to be stripped of his title and suspended for a year.

"Our policy on fighters using steroids, illegal drugs or any banned substance remains the same - you cannot use them," said UFC President Dana White. "It's not only unhealthy and unsafe, it is against the law. The UFC fully supports the commission's efforts and we will continue to take measures that keep this sport clean and keep the athletes safe."

During the UFC 73 live blog, I wrote of Sherk and Franca, These guys are packing as much muscle as you can possibly get on a 155-pound body. Now we know how they managed that.
