After Benoit and his family were found dead this week, law enforcement authorities found bottles in Benoit's home with the name of the physician, Dr. Phil Astin, on them. Astin had previously described himself as a "longtime friend" of Benoit's, and acknowledged that he prescribed testosterone for Benoit.
Astin has said he prescribed the testosterone for legitimate medical reasons and declined to say whether he prescribed him any other drugs.
"He was in my office on Friday to stop by just to see my staff," Astin said. "He certainly didn't show any signs of any distress or rage or anything."Benoit murdered his wife and son before killing himself over the weekend. Speculation has been rampant in the media and among wrestling fans about what role steroids may have played in Benoit's behavior. WWE owner Vince McMahon has insisted that neither steroids nor the wrestling business should be blamed.
