Just when it appeared UFC 150 might be turning into UFC 149 Part Two, Donald Cerrone and Melvin Guillard electrified the crowd with a 76-second hurricane of a fight.
Cerrone, the hometown favorite from Colorado Springs, withstood a nasty early flurry from Melvin Guillard and scored a knockout at 1:16 of the first round of their co-feature bout at Denver's Pepsi Center.
Guillard (43-11-2, 1 no-contest) rocked Cerrone with a counter left and followed with a big knee, but Cerrone managed to clear the cobwebs and avoid being finished.
Then Cerrone turned it on, connecting with a left head kick which wobbled Guillard, then finishing him with a huge right hand.
"Yeah, I came in a little aggressive and he hit me hard and I was like oh [expletive],' said Cerrone. "But I withstood it."
The victory was the second in a row and eighth in the past nine fights for Cerrone (19-4-1).
The bout was scheduled to be contested at lightweight, but was held at a catchweight when Guillard weighed in at 157.5 on Friday.
