This is the UFC 148 live blog for Dong Hyun Kim vs. Demian Maia, a welterweight bout for Saturday night's UFC event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Kim, who has won four of his past five fights, will fight Maia, who has lost two of his last three fights, on the main card.
Check out the live blog below.
Round 1: Maia comes straight across the cage, touches gloves with Kim, then almost immediately looks for a single-leg takedown. Guess he heard the criticism that he’s fallen in love with his standup a little too much. Kim turns and exposes his back and Maia hauls him down and goes straight into mount. Two fairly innocuous punches from Maia, and then he stops and raises his hands in victory. Kim isn’t moving. I didn’t see a tap, but referee Mario Yamasaki rushes in and Kim isn’t complaining. He seems to have suffered a rib injury during the takedown. Weird.
