On Friday, the UFC lost Hatsu Hioki as a possible featherweight title contender when the top-five fighter was upset at UFC on FX 4. On Saturday, the promotion lost another one, as top-10 Yuri Alcantara saw his long winning streak snapped by Hacran Dias.
Dias used his wrestling prowess to control the fight's pace and location, scoring six takedowns along the way en route to a unanimous decision. The judges scored it 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 for him.
The underdog Dias came out strong in the first, immediately shooting for a takedown and eventually getting it against the fence. He briefly worked for an arm triangle but couldn't get the proper positioning to finish it. Despite that, his ground control likely won him the round.
Dias successfully finished two takedowns in the second round, and although he had to withstood a nearly locked-in arm bar, his grinding work from the top position and a guard-pass earned him points along the way.
Alcantara had his best round in the third as he was able to stay upright for prolonged periods, allowing him to land strikes. But after losing the first two rounds, he needed a finish, and he never came close to getting it.
In winning his ninth straight, Dias improved to 21-1-1, while Alcantara's 13-fight win streak came to an end, dropping him to 27-4.
According to the UFC, the fight was the 2,000th in the promotion's history.
