Tom Lawlor just might have given himself the birthday gift of an extended UFC career.
Coming into his middleweight bout with Jason MacDonald on his 29th birthday, Lawlor was in need of a victory, having dropped three of his previous four fights.
Lawlor (8-4) didn't take long to get the job done, as he finished the veteran Canadian jiu-jitsu specialist in just 50 seconds.
"It's my 29th birthday tonight," said the quirky Massachusetts native. "Actually it's my 32nd but I refuse to hit 30."
The end came quick as Lawlor caught MacDonald (25-16) with a left hand on the nose, then followed with a right behind the ear that dropped MacDonald flat to the mat. Lawlor landed one more shot before referee Tom McGovern waved it off.
"I hit him with a two right on the button," Lawlor said. "I backed off, my brain was a little scrambled, two or three landed. I feel good."
The loss was the third out of four during MacDonald's most recent UFC stint.
