Benavidez (15-2), who defeated Ian Loveland and Eddie Wineland in UFC fights last year, makes the drop down to flyweight in this semifinal bout. Urushitani (19-4-6) is coming off a successful Shooto 123-lb. title defense in July 2011 against Yuki Shoujou.

Round 1: Benavidez gauges his distance and opens with a stinging body kick. Urushitani charges forward but is stopped in his tracks by a jab. Benavidez is pushing the pace and controlling the action early. Benavidez hustles the fight against the cage and nearly throws Urushitani to the mat. Urushitani stays on his feet but eats a knee on the way out. Benavidez continues forward and muscles Urushitani down. Benavidez is dominating the position, working to mount before transitioning to Urushitani's back. Thirty seconds left and Benavidez is hunting for a rear-naked choke. Urushitani is being outclassed but he manages to survive. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Benavidez.
Round 2: Benavidez blocks a kick and counters with a monstrous right hook. Urushitani is out. Benavidez swarms and that's it.
