Demian Maia's days of fighting as a middleweight are over ... for now.
The former 185-pound middleweight contender announced via Twitter on Wednesday that his next fight will be as a welterweight. He did not announce who he will face in his 170-pound UFC debut and when the fight will take place.
Maia (15-4) has lost two of his last three fights, most recently dropping a unanimous decision to Chris Weidman at UFC on FOX 2. Since losing a middleweight title fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 112, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist is 3-2 inside the Octagon.
The 34-year-old Maia holds notable UFC wins over Chael Sonnen, Dan Miller, Kendall Grove and Nate Quarry.
