Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin is the latest fighter to fall victim to the MMA injury jinx of 2012. A knee injury has forced him out of his Dec. 29 fight against Phil Davis at UFC 155 in Las Vegas.
UFC president Dana White broke the news Wednesday, tweeting "Forrest Has MCL tear and ACL strain. 20 cc's of blood removed from his knee and the saga continues at the UFC!!"
There's no word yet as to who will replace Griffin in the bout against Davis. The fight was originally scheduled as Griffin vs. Chael Sonnen, but Davis took Sonnen's place after the later was pulled from the show in order to coach the next season of "The Ultimate Fighter."
UFC 155 is headlined by the heavyweight title rematch between champion Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez. But there has been significant re-tooling to the rest of the announced main card. Costa Philippou replaced Chris Weidman in his middleweight bout against Tim Boetsch after Weidman needed shoulder surgery; and Jim Miller replaced Gray Maynard in a lightweight bout against Joe Lauzon.
