Former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez entered a heavyweight tournament in Russia and won his quarterfinal fight over Sengoku veteran Moise Rimbon.

A slimmed down Rodriguez, who recently stated that he is interested in dropping down to light heavyweight, defeated Rimbon by split decision (round two is in the above video), but pulled out of the tournament due to "high temperature," according to the promotion's Web site.

2008 Olympic wrestler and two-time NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren kept his perfect MMA record intact by improving to 3-0 with a submission win Friday at Max Fights DM "Ballroom Brawl" in Des Moines, Iowa.

Askren, a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, stuck to his strengths, shooting early on and securing overhooks to look for a trip takedown. The 25-year-old then switched to a single leg to bring opponent Matt Delanoit to the ground. From there Askren avoided a triangle choke to pass to north-south, where he would finish with the choke at 1:15 of the opening round.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - October is shaping to be another can't miss-month for mixed martial arts fans.

We already knew that DREAM.11 would take place on Oct. 6 and UFC 104 on Oct. 24, but now it looks like Fedor Emelianenko will make his Strikeforce debut on Oct. 10. Ken Hershman, Showtime Sports' senior vice president and general manager, informed FanHouse of the news on Thursday. Emelianenko's first fight for the organization will air live on the premium cable network.
