By Mike ChiappettaPosted: Sep 20th 2009 5:32 AM
DALLAS -- While Floyd Mayweather managed to steal most of the major sports headlines away from UFC 103 on Saturday night, UFC President Dana White was in full belief he put on the better event. How did he know? Because even though White was in the midst of a 13-fight card, he bought the Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez fight and had it playing on a monitor near him.
"It sucked," he said. "It sucked just like I said it would and knew it would."
Can Rich Frankin vs. Vitor Belfort Win Bitter Battle Over PPV Consumers?
By Mike ChiappettaPosted: Sep 18th 2009 6:11 PM
DALLAS -- In the weeks leading up to Sept. 19's dueling pay-per-view events, words have been exchanged by many of the particulars over whether boxing or UFC will have the bigger night.
Most of the verbal war has been waged by boxing headliner Floyd Mayweather and UFC President Dana White, who of course doubles as the his company's lead hype man. Not surprisingly, UFC 103's headliners Rich Franklin and Vitor Belfort have been stone silent on the issue. Boxing promoter Bob Arum, who infamously badmouthed MMA fans as "skinheads watching guys who look like skinheads," might want to take note of the two men atop the card.

On Saturday night a pair of combat sports titans will go head to head, when the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Golden Boy Promotions square off in simultaneous pay-per-view cards. And that means we'll have a brother vs. brother battle of ring announcers, with Bruce Buffer saying "It's time" at UFC 103 and Michael Buffer calling "Let's get ready to rumble" for Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Juan Manuel Marquez. I talked to Bruce Buffer last week, and he said he's confident the UFC show will win the night on pay-per-view.

Dana White hasn't cooled off on HBO boxing's decision to air the Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez boxing match on Sept. 19 -- the same night as UFC 103.
In a new video released by the UFC on Wednesday, which contains some obscene language, White took a few more jabs at his pay-per-view counterparts.
Floyd Mayweather, Golden Boy 'Not Worried' About UFC 103 Competition
By Ariel HelwaniPosted: Sep 1st 2009 6:30 PM
The Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Juan Manuel Marquez fight will be the first high-profile boxing match to go up against a major UFC pay-per-view on the same night in quite some time. How many pay-per-view buys both shows generate will tell an interesting story as to which sport controls the interest of the general mainstream sports public. But if you think Mayweather or Golden Boy Promotions is concerned about competing for eye balls with the red-hot UFC on September 19, think again.

PHILADELPHIA -- Floyd Mayweather may still be unbeaten in the ring, but he may get the biggest challenge of his life on the business front later this year. On Sept. 19, Mayweather's comeback bout against Juan Manuel Marquez will go head-to-head with UFC 103 on pay-per-view, and UFC President Dana White isn't backing down.
"I didn't plan on going head-to-head with them. They're weird like that," White said at a UFC 101 question-and-answer session with fans. "We had that date, and everyone asked them to go off that date but for some reason they like to fight with us."
