By Michael David SmithPosted: Mar 12th 2010 11:00 AM

They just weren't the two we thought they were beforehand.Prior to WEC 47, a lot of people had bantamweights Brian Bowles and Miguel Torres in their top 10 pound-for-pound lists. (Bowles was No. 7 on my list and Torres fell just outside the top 10.) But after Dominick Cruz beat Bowles and Joseph Benavidez beat Torres, the two WEC 47 winners are both on my list of the Top 10 fighters in mixed martial arts, which is below.

MMA Top 10 Pound-for-Pound: Credit to Rashad Evans
By Michael David SmithPosted: Jan 5th 2010 9:25 AM
Rashad Evans probably doesn't get enough credit as one of the truly elite athletes in mixed martial arts. Maybe after his win on Saturday night over Thiago Silva at UFC 108, he will.Evans showed off his excellent wrestling base in repeatedly taking Silva down on Saturday night, and although he nearly lost the fight in the third round, he showed a lot of heart in weathering some powerful combinations from Silva, one of the light heavyweight division's most dangerous strikers.
And so, even though he needs another win or maybe two before he'll be back in title contention, I have Evans in my list of the Top 10 pound-for-pound fighters in the world, which is below.

One after another, fighters dropped from the card, matchups were erased and critics complained. UFC 108, they said, was cursed.

After Full Decade of Superstardom in MMA, BJ Penn Hitting His Prime
By Mike ChiappettaPosted: Dec 14th 2009 11:19 AM
MEMPHIS – Perhaps with the passage of time, we'll one day look back and truly understand just how great BJ Penn was.
That's not a realization that can come from one, specific win -- even one as dominant as his fifth-round TKO against Diego Sanchez at UFC 107. Instead, it comes as a compilation of history.
Here's a brain-teaser for you: try to think of another MMA fighter who was relevant at the beginning of the '00s, a contender throughout the decade and still at a championship level entering the '10s.
