Misaki to remain on Sengoku card, but no purse, title shot

2006 PRIDE 183-pound Grand Prix winner Kazuo Misaki will compete as scheduled on the August 2 Sengoku 9 card, but he'll be doing so for free and without the opportunity for a future title shot.

World Victory Road, the parent company of Sengoku, decided today to keep Misaki on the card but the fight will only be a number one contender bout for his opponent Kazuhiro Nakamura. If Nakamura wins, he will take on middleweight champion Jorge Santiago at a later date.

Four grappling superfights set for UFC 100 Fan Expo

UFC competitors Joe Stevenson and Vinicius "Pezao" Magalhaes, WEC featherweight Fredson Paixao and Shooto legend Rumina Sato are among the competitors set to compete in grappling matches at the UFC 100 Fan Expo on Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

The matchups are Rumina Sato vs. Ulysses Gomez and Vinicius "Pezao" Magalhaes vs. TBA on Friday and Joe Stevenson vs. Bill Cooper and Jeff Glover vs. Fredson Paixao on Saturday.

Ryo Chonan returns to Japan at DEEP 43rd Impact

Ryo Chonan will make his competitive return to Japan after a 24-month absence at the August 23 DEEP 43rd Impact event.

An opponent is to be announced, but Chonan's participation on the card has already been confirmed.

Chonan (15-10) has competed 12 times for the DEEP promotion and won two fights at DEEP events in 2007 before he embarked on a stint with the UFC, where he amassed a record of 1-3. Chonan is one of only four fights to hold a victory over UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, and Chonan did so with a flying scissor heel hook submission.

Mark Kerr to fight at King of the Cage 'Capital Excailbur'

Mark Kerr will aim to snap a four-fight losing streak when he competes at King of the Cage "Capital Excalibur" on July 18 in Canada.

Kerr will be taking on Penner, a 29-year-old who has fought mostly locally in Alberta, Canada. In his second pro fight, Penner scored a first round submission via strikes victory over Butterbean. His lone loss was against Jimmy Ambriz via unanimous decision.

Mark Hominick will take on Deividas Taurosevicius at Affliction 3 "Trilogy" on August 1 in Anaheim, according to Between Rounds Radio.

Hominick (16-8) is returning to Affliction after a bout with pneumonia that pulled him away from a fight against LC Davis at "Day of Reckoning" in January. Hominick last July at "Banned" had submitted Savant Young with an armbar.

WEC: Cerrone vs. Henderson set for Youngstown, Ohio

WEC will crown an interim lightweight champion when the promotion makes its first trip to Ohio on September 2. The announcement came today that WEC 43 "Cerrone vs. Henderson" will happen at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown.

Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone (10-1) out of Team Greg Jackson will have to settle for an interim championship title shot until titleholder Jamie Varner recovers from injuries. Cerrone will instead face Ben Henderson (9-1), who has ended six of his nine wins by way of submission.

Gilbert Yvel vs. Paul Buentello at Affliction 3

Gilbert Yvel will replace Tim Sylvia against Paul Buentello at Affliction 3 "Trilogy" on August 1 in Anaheim.

Yvel (36-13-1) earned the gig with his knockout win over former UFC title challenger Pedro Rizzo on Saturday at "Ultimate Chaos" in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Sylvia was removed from the fight following his nine-second loss to Ray Mercer this month at Adrenaline 3.

Full card set for WEC 42 'Torres vs. Bowles'

The WEC has released the full lineup for its August 9 card featuring a bantamweight title defense by Miguel Torres against Brian Bowles.

Two bantamweight showdowns will headline WEC 42 at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

In the main event, WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres (36-1) will put his title on the line against undefeated Brian Bowles (7-0). The fight was slated for WEC 40 but Bowles had to pull out due to a back injury.

Dan Hornbuckle to face Akihiro Gono at Sengoku 9

Midwestern fighter Dan Hornbuckle will be Akihiro Gono's opponent at Sengoku 9 on August 2 in Saitama, Japan, World Victory Road announced today.

Hornbuckle (17-2) fought once before for the promotion, tapping to a triangle choke by Mike Pyle at Sengoku 2 in May 2008 that snapped a 13-fight win streak.

He'll be looking to spoil Gono (29-14-7)'s return to Japan after over two years away competing for the UFC. Known for his extravagant entrances, Gono is promising something new for August 2.

The UFC 102 card in Portland has been completed with the addition of a preliminary bout between heavyweights Todd Duffee and Mike Russow.

UFC 102 is headlined by former champions Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and takes place Saturday, August 29 at the Rose Garden.

Russow (11-1) is a Chicago police officer and one-time PRIDE competitor who recently signed a a four-fight deal with the UFC. Russow fought twice last year for his manager's Adrenaline MMA promotion and won both fights with choke holds.

Jorge Rivera signs four-fight deal with UFC

Jorge Rivera has inked a new four-fight contract with the UFC, the Boston Herald reports.

Rivera has competed ten times for the UFC since UFC 44 "Undisputed" in September 2003. In 2006, Rivera signed on with "The Ultimate Fighter 4: The Comeback" to compete in the show's middleweight competition.

UFC signs deal to air in China

Drew Fickett inebriated, fails pre-fight physical

Former top ranked welterweight Drew Fickett failed his pre-fight physical and was not allowed to compete this past Saturday at Rage in the Cage 129 in Glove, Arizona.

Fickett was scheduled to take on one-time PRIDE competitor Shannon "The Cannon" Ritch but the featured bout was canceled when Fickett showed up inebriated for his physical.

According to Ritch, Fickett submitted to a Breathalizer test and was considered legally drunk.

Despite giving up 66.8 pounds in the super-heavyweight bout, Bobby Lashley ground and pounded his way to victory over Bob Sapp at "Ultimate Chaos" Saturday in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Lashley right away went for the takedown to wear down his 322-pound opponent with punches from Sapp's half guard. Sapp grabbed Lashley's arm to limit Lashley's punches but never attempted to escape to a better position.

Limp Bizkit concert off UFC 100 weekend

The Limp Bizkit concert scheduled for UFC 100 weekend has been canceled, Ticketmaster announced today.
The 90's rap-rock band was slated to perform July 10 at the Mandalay Bay Beach as part of the UFC Fan Expo weekend.

The stop was to be the band's first show in eight years and was supposed to kick off the band's "Unicorns N' Rainbows" reunion tour.

Limp Bizkit's hits, "Break Stuff" and "Rollin'" were used a combined four times by Tito Ortiz as the former UFC light-heavyweight champion's UFC entrance song.
