Rashad Evans, #1 Light Heavyweight
In a division controlled by the UFC, Evans won the promotion's light heavyweight belt by stopping Forrest Griffin at UFC 92 on Dec. 27.
Frank Mir, #2 Heavyweight
Mir jumped from the #10 spot all the way to #2 when he stopped Antonio Rodrigo Nougiera -- the only fighter to ever accompish this feat -- at UFC 92.
Shinya Aoki, #2 Lightweight
Aoki entered his Dynamite!! 2008 fight against Eddie Alvarez as the underdog and walked out as the WAMMA lightweight champion. Aoki only trails UFC lightweight champ BJ Penn, whom Aoki himself considers the best lightweight today.
Takanori Gomi, #9 Lightweight
After hanging around number two for much of the past few years, Gomi has fallen to his lowest mark, the ninth spot for his losses to Sergey Golyaev and Satoru Kitaoka.
Jorge Santiago, #10 Middleweight
Santiago has silently been on a tear since leaving the UFC in 2006, compiling nine straight wins. Santiago cracks the top ten with his latest win over Kazuo Misaki.

VENOM says:
Gaslight, How can you call these the best rankings ever when they have Junior Dos Santos ranked as a top 10 heavyweight? No way are these the best rankings in the game. As much as I love this site, they really need to re-visit their criteria for ranking fighters.January 6, 2009 - 2:03am
Gaslight Anthem says:
Venom, Dos Santos KO'd Werdum who deserved a shot at the UFC title. Werdum was skipped over because Couture came back. Werdum is no joke, he has beaten Gonzaga twice, Alek Emelianenko, and Alistair Overeem. Sherdog had Dos Santos on their top ten too. They replace him now with Overeem (which doesn't make sense to me, but that's another story) but he was on their list too.January 6, 2009 - 7:41am
tkhess says:
Brock Lesnar a top 30 athlete of 2008 just because he beat Coture. Lesnar is 3-1 I believe and is a joke. He'll be good once he can submit someone, but for now, just avoid his haymakers. What was Dana thinking when he paid Lesnar all that cash, the veterans of the UFC should be upset what some of these new guys get. I'd fight Lesnar for free.January 6, 2009 - 10:13pm
MrBurnout says:
Come on man give the man some respect (evens) that is! Every fight he went in and won! Including that draw with Tito! He has 17 wins so he's the best in his weightclass until someone beats him! (which will be Rampage when they fight!)January 8, 2009 - 10:30pm
UFC.Fight.Fan says:
Yah i think there tons of people better then Evans. Im not saying he is bad, i think he is good fighter, but i think there are people better like rampage, machido, silvaJanuary 8, 2009 - 11:08pm
HxC.Nightmare says:
well as u all may recall the only reason tito lost that fight was due to a point deduction.... and thats just simple facts and febrecio is a monster he def dersevres to be up there umm but arslovski i forgot about hes def way better rich franklin is better if u wanna count him as 205 anderson silva could run through him if he wanted to go up at 205 again like the list goes on and onJanuary 17, 2009 - 6:51am
