"After tonight those guys are going out of business and all [their fighters] will be over here," White said Saturday at the UFC Fight Night: Silva vs. Irvin post-fight press conference.
Affliction invested heavily in its inaugural "Affliction: Banned" event, spending $3,321,000 on fighters alone to assemble arguably the greatest heavyweight card in MMA history.
To put that in perspective, the Spike TV-televised card put together Saturday by the industry leader UFC amounted to $623,000 in fighter salaries. The UFC's last pay-per-view, "UFC 86: Jackson vs. Griffin," paid $943,000 to its fighters.
There are also other expenses normally associated with promoting an event, such as venue rental, insurance, hotel for fighters, advertising, licensing and more.
"Cause they spent a lot of money tonight," White explained. "And I know more about this business than they do. If you spend a lot of money and you don't get that money back, you usually go out of business.
"Talk to the IFL... They know all about it."
