Dan Miller 'Killer Guillotine' Video
By Michael David SmithPosted: Feb 6th 2010 10:39 PM
During Saturday night's Dan Miller-Demian Maia fight at UFC 109, Joe Rogan mentioned that Miller had a "killer guillotine" in his days in the International Fight League, and that you can watch the video online. Here's that video from YouTube.
That choke came during a fight between Miller and Dave Phillips in 2007. Miller clamped on what IFL announcer Bas Rutten called the tightest guillotine choke he had ever seen, and Phillips, who didn't tap out in time, was choked unconscious before the referee stopped the fight.
It was, as Rogan said, the ugliest, nastiest guillotine you'll ever see.

Paulo Thiago: Fighting Is About Strategy and Reason
By Michael David SmithPosted: Jan 26th 2010 1:57 PM
Paulo Thiago articulates something in this video (with the help of a translator) that I think nearly every MMA fighter believes, but that I think is still completely misunderstood by people who have a visceral reaction to MMA as violent and barbarous: When two fighters step into the cage, they're simply competing in an athletic competition against each other. They don't hate each other, they don't want to hurt each other, they just want to beat each other.
