Junior dos Santos called his own shot. After predicting a second-round TKO victory over Frank Mir in the lead-up to UFC 146, dos Santos delivered just that, ending his first title defense with a vicious salvo of punches midway through the second frame.
It was a fitting cap to the UFC's all-heavyweight main card. With five finishes clocking in under a 22-minute total runtime, the night was as explosive as many predicted. But ultimately dos Santos stood above the rest, defending his throne, leaving a battered and bruised Mir with no out but defeat.
"Not bad for a nice guy, huh?" the elated champ quipped afterward. Not bad at all, and while "Cigano" celebrated his victory inside the cage, his fellow fighters flooded to Twitter to rave about the violence they had just witnessed.
