A heavyweight clash between Cheick Kongo and Augusto Sakai was added to the main card of Bellator 179 in London, Bellator officials confirmed to MMA Fighting following a report by Gazeta do Povo.
Kongo vs. Sakai was originally booked for Bellator 150 in Feb. 2016, but the Brazilian heavyweight pulled out due to injury.
Kongo (26-10-2) enters the cage looking for his fifth straight victory in Bellator after defeating Alexander Volkov, Vinicius Queiroz, Tony Johnson and Oli Thompson in a span of 20 months.
Sakai (9-0-1) scored three of his four Bellator wins by knockout between 2013 and 2015, but hasn’t fought in almost a year, when he returned from injury and fought to a majority draw with Dan Charles.
Bellator 179 will take place at the SSE Arena in London, headlined by Paul Daley vs. Rory MacDonald. The main card also includes Michael Page vs. Derek Anderson and Liam McGeary vs. Linton Vassell.
