One of women’s MMA’s biggest rising stars will be back in the cage soon.
Angela Lee will defend her ONE Championship women’s 115-pound title against Brazilian prospect Istela Nunes in the main event of ONE: Dynasty of Heroes on May 26 in Singapore, the promotion announced Wednesday.
Lee (7-0) just defeated Jenny Huang in dominant fashion via third-round submission (punches) last Saturday in Thailand. The Hawaii resident won the inaugural ONE atomweight belt against Mei Yamaguchi by unanimous decision in May 2016, a Fight of the Year candidate. Lee, 20, is one of ONE’s breakout stars and one of the most popular fighters on the roster, regardless of weight class.
Nunes (5-0, 1 NC) defeated Yamaguchi under the ONE banner by split decision last August. Her triple head kick finish of Karoline Martins Moreira was one of the best KOs in women’s MMA last year. Nunes, 24, has a no contest on her record due to a loss via an illegal soccer kick in 2015. She has only been a pro fighter since that year
No other fights have been announced yet for ONE: Dynasty of Heroes. The event will take place at ONE’s home arena, Singapore Indoor Stadium. Lee trains part of the year at Evolve MMA in Singapore and her father is Singaporean.
