UFC lightweight contender Dustin Poirier was the lone fighter to received a potentially lengthy medical suspension in the aftermath of UFC 208, as Poirier was suspended indefinitely due to possible injuries sustained during his main card bout against Jim Miller, according to information released Wednesday by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC).
Poirier defeated Miller via unanimous decision in a back-and-forth contest that garnered ‘Fight of the Night’ honors at UFC 208. Poirier suffered substantial damage to his right leg over the course of the bout, however he revealed on social media Sunday that he sustained no broken bones against Miller. Nonetheless, Poirier will be formally sidelined until receiving doctor and commission clearance on any potential injuries, per NYSAC orders.
UFC 208 took place Feb. 11 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Germaine de Randamie edged Holly Holm to capture the inaugural UFC women’s featherweight title in the night’s main event, which aired live on pay-per-view.
Unlike many other state athletic commissions, the NYSAC does not publicly disclose reasons for the length of its suspensions.
