UFC 208: Holm vs. de Randamie took place Feb. 11 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. UFC lightweight veterans Dustin Poirier (21-5) and Jim Miller (28-9, 1 NC) collided in a 'Fight of the Night' contest on the night's main card, which aired live on pay-per-view. Round 1: Miller to center, and he throws a couple of right hands and gets kicked in his leg for the effort. It's Miller stalking forward. Lot of movement from Poirier earlier, who is very relaxed in there. Poirier throws a right hand but Miller it out of there and out of the way. Already some redness on Miller's head. Crowd likes Miller here, the New Jersey guy. High kick from Miller, and now he sells out for a takedown. Can't get it. They are on the fence, and Poirier is the one shoving Miller through the links. The break, and Poirier lands a nice couple of shots on the break — and Miller returns fire! Nice exchange there. Body punch from Miller. Right at Poirier's heart. Didn't affect him much. Poirier is throwing big one-shots, and missing. But he does seem like he's poised and finding rhythm. Now Miller surges ahead wining bombs, and a couple of those land. Poirier counters, and he gets a couple of nice shots in on Miller. There's some blood on Miller's head, about the eye. A "Let's Go Miller" chant breaks out, and Miller gets a takedown! On cue. He has Poirier's back, and is trying to get the body lock. Now he has Poirier's neck, and Poirier reverses! Now he's on top of Miller, and they stand. As they do it's a gun fight! Round 2: Miller lands a leg kick. His face is showing the war, but he's hanging tough with the 3-to-1 favorite Poirier. He's holding his ground, and he lands again. Poirier initiates an exchange, and Miller bites down on his mouthpiece and lands back. Those were nice hard shots. Poirier on the fence though begins to unload, and he has Miller rocked! Miller instinctively drops low looking for a double leg, can't get it. They break and Poirier — smelling blood in the water — unloads again. Miller is tough, tough. He ate some big shots, but he is still there. His 25th UFC fight, and he's still got one hell of a chin. just right-left-right-left on that fence, and Miller taking the brunt of those blows. He's teetering, but he's still there. They move to the other side of the cage, and Miller fires a right hand across to Poirier's chin. It lands. And Poirier tracks him down on the far post and again, lands one-twos, just treating Miller as a heavy bag. Miller lowers and tries to tackle Poirier, can't get him down — but he has Poirier on the fence. The clinch, as Poirier turns Miller's back to the links. And there are some knees landing in that tight space for Poirier, as he drags Miller to the canvas now. Inside of a minute, as now Poirier lets Miller back up. Miller's face getting worse, as Poirier lays in again. He's landing with the right hand. Miller swinging wild counters, but he's throwing at ghosts. Round 3: Poirier with a nice right jab, and Miller's head snaps back at the impact. Just getting more one-sided, but Miller is all guts. Another jab by Poirier, and now sure if that was a slip, but for a moment Poirier hit the deck. Obscured view here. Crowd liked it. Big left hand from Jim, and he misses in the next sequence a big left. Poirier is in fantastic shape, not even breathing hard. Now Miller able to get a takedown, and Miller playing some rubber guard, now into guard. Poirier postures out and lands a nice shot, and Miller drags him back in close. Now Poirier on a knee, as Miller is being ground into the fence. Not a good place for Miller. Poirier in his guard, and he's activating some hammerfists. Again, Miller doing the mission control, holding his ankle up near Poirier's neck. He is scooting to his feet, and he's now on one knee, with Poirier right on him. He stands and he shoves Poirier across the fence, trying to return some of that bully stuff. Poirier withstands, and now he has Miller back down on the fence. That might have been Miller's chance right there, passing him by. Now Miller fishing out a wrist, looking for a Kimura, and the crowd comes to life, but Poirier coolly adjusts and pulls out from that. He ends up on top as the fight ends. Great fight.
