Conor McGregor is a favorite in the main event of the UFC's historic debut event in New York City.
For now, anyway.
McGregor opened at -150 on the Bovada online sports book for his fight against lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 after it was announced Monday night on ESPN by UFC president Dana White. Alvarez opened at +120.
Those odds will more than likely fluctuate as Nov. 12 gets closer. The UFC will hold a press conference for the blockbuster card Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET at Madison Square Garden.
McGregor (20-3) is coming off a majority decision victory over Nate Diaz at UFC 202 last month. It ended up being the biggest pay-per-view in UFC history when it comes to buyrate. McGregor, 28, is the UFC featherweight champion after knocking out Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds at UFC 194 last December.
Alvarez (28-4), aptly nicknamed "The Underground King," bounced around in all kinds of promotions, fighting in all different countries before coming to the UFC in 2014. He knocked out Rafael dos Anjos in the first round in July to become the UFC lightweight champion. Alvarez, 32, has been a pro fighter for 13 years.
Also at UFC 205, Tyron Woodley will defend his welterweight title against Stephen Thompson in the co-main event. Thompson (-205) is a fairly heavy favorite against Woodley (+165) as the challenger.
