It's probably a lock we won't see Patricio Freire again until next year.
"Pitbull" fractured the fibula in his right leg Friday night against Benson Henderson in the main event of Bellator 160 in Anaheim. California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) doctors have suspended him for six months unless he's cleared by a physician due to the break, according to a public document obtained by MMA Fighting on Monday.
Henderson won the bout by second-round TKO (injury) after "Pitbull" took the first round. Henderson will now meet Michael Chandler for the Bellator lightweight title in November. Henderson, the former UFC and WEC lightweight champion, was only given a mandatory seven-day rest period by CSAC doctors.
Freire (25-4) does not need surgery on the leg, he wrote Monday on Instagram. It'll be three weeks until he's able to put his weight on the leg and three months until the bone is healed.
