A bantamweight match-up between Marlon Vera and Ning Guangyou is officially off UFC on FOX 21. The promotion announced the news on Tuesday.
According to the promotion, China's Guangyou had timing issues with his visa, canceling his bout with Vera at this Saturday's Vancouver card. This fight was originally scheduled for UFC 202, but due to a failed out-of-competition test that was investigated to be without fault from Guangyou's part, the bout was moved to UFC on FOX 21.
Additionally, promotional newcomer Alex Ricci will be stepping in for an injured Josh Emmett to face Jeremy Kennedy in a lightweight bout. The news was first reported by MMA Sucka, and was later confirmed by MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani.
The Canadian Ricci has only competed once in 2016, outpointing Kieran Joblin at Triumph FC 1 back in April. Prior to that, the 34-year-old defeated Kyle Prepolec at Global Warriors FC 2, and lost to current UFC lightweight Darrel Horcer at Cage Fury FC 40. Ricci is currently 10-3 as a professional fighter.
UFC on FOX 21 takes place on Aug. 27 in Vancouver, Canada. Top welterweight contenders Carlos Condit and Demian Maia are scheduled to battle in the main event of the card.
