Titan FC has signed a heavyweight prospect from Switzerland and putting him right in the title picture.
Volkan Oezdemir, a recent signee, will fight for the heavyweight title at Titan FC 41 on Sept. 9, promotion officials told MMA Fighting on Thursday. Oezdemir will take on the winner of a title fight between Jack May and Derrick Mehmen from Titan FC 40 on Aug. 5.
Oezedemir (12-1) has finished 10 of his 12 victories. His lone loss came to Kelly Anundson in Bellator two years ago.
Titan has also inked a pair of former International MMA Federation (IMMAF) amateur champions to deals: Will Starks, a two-time IMMAF champ at welterweight, and IMMAF flyweight champion Carlos Hernandez. Both are teammates of Titan flyweight prospect Jose Torres.
In addition to those new signees, Titan has brought in Jorge Calvo, a Costa Rican prospect, to face veteran Alexis Vila at Titan 40. A women's bout has been added to Titan 40 as well: Hannah Goldschmidt vs. Fatima Mallet.
Titan 40 will take place at BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla. The event will air live on UFC Fight Pass.
"[Titan CEO] Jeff [Aronson] and I, along with the entire team at Titan FC are committed to finding the best fighters around the globe and providing them a platform here in South Floride and on UFC Fight Pass to showcase their talents," COO Lex McMahon said in a release. "Our most recent crop of signees clearly showcases our global view, which include athletes signed from Switzerland, Costa Rica as well as fighters who are IMMAF world champions. Finding the best young talent has always been part of our business model at Titan FC and we are extremely excited for the future of these rising stars."
