The vehicle suspected to be the one that hit and killed Ryan Jimmo has been found, the Edmonton Police Service confirmed Tuesday with MMA Fighting. The news was first reported by Global Edmonton.
The EPS sent out a press release regarding the matter Tuesday afternoon. The vehicle, a pickup truck, was found Monday evening and seized by police for forensic examination. The cops released photos of the truck Monday.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide.
Jimmo, a seven-fight UFC veteran, was struck and killed early Sunday morning in the hit-and-run incident. The 34-year-old is believed to have gotten into a verbal dispute with another driver and walked over on foot to the other vehicle. When Jimmo walked back to his own car, the driver of the truck allegedly sped up, struck him and then fled the scene, nearly hitting another car in the process. Jimmo was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Edmonton Police Service officially named Jimmo was the victim Tuesday after an autopsy was performed. The autopsy determined that Jimmo died as a result of blunt force trauma.
Jimmo fought in the UFC as recently as last year. He was with the promotion from 2012 to 2015 and owns one of the quickest knockouts in UFC history, a seven-second KO of Anthony Perosh at UFC 149 in 2012.
