Now that Michael Bisping defended his title at UFC 204, the middleweight division can get moving again. Or at least, Bisping can be booked against whoever looks most impressive between Chris Weidman vs. Yoel Romero (Nov. 12) and Luke Rockhold vs. Ronaldo Souza (Nov. 27).
And if anybody thought that Bisping was ready to pick and choose his next title defense, the champion has been quick to shoot those theories down. After scoring a unanimous decision against Dan Henderson in Manchester, Bisping had words for all the "big four" in the division.
"[Chris] Weidman, what the hell? You lost your last fight," Bisping told Brian Stann in the post-fight interview. "I've had three victories since you got your ass kicked by Luke Rockhold. Rockhold, I knocked you out in three minutes, buddy. Yoel Romero, you’re suspended for steroids. Shame on you. All of you win a fight, get off the couch, and let's [expletive] do this."
Bisping has been criticized for taking a fight with Henderson, who was ranked No. 14 on the UFC rankings, ahead of more deserving names. One of his primary critics throughout his run as a champion has been the former champ Weidman.
Weidman appeared on The MMA Hour on Monday and said he was embarrassed by Bisping.
"I really thought Dan Henderson should have got his hand raised, so I was embarrassed for him," he told Ariel Helwani. "He can say my name a billion times and call me all the names he wants. That guy does not affect me."
Back in June, during a Q&A in Ottawa, Weidman said he thought Bisping was ducking him.
On Tuesday, in his first appearance since defeating Henderson, Bisping appeared on UFC Unfiltered, and he said that was definitively not the case.
"I mean of that f*cking whiner, that cry baby Chris Weidman wants to do it, then I’m more than happy to do it," Bisping said. "If he gets past Yoel Romero next month, let’s do it soon. I’m happy to. He thinks I’m ducking him, he’s f*cking crazy. I’ve never ducked anybody in my life, I’m certainly not going to start with that f*cking douchebag.
"So, if he wants to do it, he can come out here and he can try to wrestle and do that, but he’ll find himself getting punched in the face repeatedly, then…I’m going to finish Chris Weidman that’s for sure."
