This probably is not the UFC's official stance on the matter.
Matt Hughes, a UFC executive and former UFC welterweight champion, took a slap at Nick Diaz on Twitter, saying he was a "punk" at the Nevada Athletic Commission meeting Monday. Diaz, of course, was suspended by the NAC for five years and fined $165,000 for failing a third drug test for marijuana in the state.
Hughes doesn't think five years was necessarily fair, but believes the punishment had to do with Diaz's demeanor. Diaz didn't testify at the disciplinary hearing, instead taking the Fifth Amendment on the advice of his legal team.
Diaz's lawyer Lucas Middlebrook presented a compelling defense, like the fact that Diaz actually passed two fight-night drug tests at UFC 183 when he lost to Anderson Silva. Diaz failed one of three tests and those results came from a lab that is not accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Silva failed that night as well for steroid metabolites and he was only given a one-year ban. The former UFC middleweight champion can return to the Octagon in February.

UPDATE: Hughes already said he regrets his word choice regarding Diaz as of Thursday afternoon.
I shouldn't have used "punk" when talking about being in front of the commission. I watched the video of him after. @remergedj
