Welcome to episode 120 of the Promotional Malpractice Live Chat.
It's never simple with Jon Jones, is it? He puts on what I'd classify as a fairly dominating performance against Daniel Cormier at UFC 182 only for news to break late Tuesday that he'd failed a December 4th drug test ordered by the NSAC. Jones tested positive for cocaine metabolites. He's since checked himself into rehab.
That's news enough, but it gets weirder. The NSAC had the results on December 23rd, long before his January 3rd fight. Technically, no commission rule was broken, but this is hardly a model of transparency when announcements are made in such a manner. Worse, it was announced on January 1 they were essentially scrapping their enhanced testing program (although more money will be given to commissions). At the time, the UFC said it was related to the Cung Le debacle in Macau, China. No one knows when the UFC learned of Jones' positive test, but at a minimum, the timing of everything is eyebrow raising.
