Poll: Farce Retirement Fight for BJ?

"History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce"

-Karl Marx

In Penn and Edgar's case, the third time was farce.

The word "farce" is loaded with meaning. It's one of those words that just opened up new avenues of thought for me. One internet dictionary definition has the meaning as...

"a comic dramatic work using buffoonery and horseplay and typically including crude characterization and ludicrously improbable situations."

The first fight between Penn and Edgar was closely contested. Many mma fans thought BJ won. The second fight was clearly Edgar's. The third fight was just a farce full of "buffoonery and horseplay". The image of Penn standing with a narrow stance and easily being taken down was comic and tragic. How could Penn, a seemingly very intelligent fighter, fight so foolishly?

Personally, watching BJ Penn lose tonight to Frankie Edgar was one of the saddest moments I've ever watched in mma. It was similar to when I watched Fedor fall. Penn was on fire when I first started watching mma in 2005. I will miss the old BJ Penn who surprised everyone.
