Just a thought I had about how the UFC could grow the sport.
Right now their model is having the best fighters in the world fight 3 times a year. In reality it's more like 1-3 fights, and you can count the number of fighters who have more than 3 fights in a year on one hand.
I think it's time to keep the fighters more active, and aim for 5 fights a year. Injuries are going to happen, life happens, so obviously not everyone is going to fight this much. But I think it's a good starting point, just to change their philosophy.
It's no secret that ratings have peaked using the current model of 3 fights a year. By having their top fighters more active they can shrink the roster, weed out the weak, and hopefully increase viewership because people are gererally more interested in watching top 10 ranked fighters.
What do you think?
