Though a main event has yet to be set, a fight between Jorge Masvidal and Daron Cruickshank has been added to the UFC on FOX San Jose card on July 26. The bout between the lightweights was first reported by Mike Chiappetta at Fox Sports on Thursday morning.
The 28-year old Cruickshank (15-4) is coming off an impressive upset victory over Erik Koch at UFC Fight Night 40, a little more than two weeks ago in Cincinnati. The "Detroit Superstar" has put exclamation marks on both of his recent UFC victories, beginning with a wheel kick TKO against Mike Rio in January. He finished the highly-regarded Koch with a head-kick and subsequent punches.
In drawing Masvidal (26-8), Cruickshank will be getting a forward-moving action fighter, who himself is coming off of a one-sided victory against Pat Healy in April on the last UFC on FOX card. Since coming over in the Strikeforce merger, "Gamebred" is 3-1 in the UFC, with victories over Tim Means and Michael Chiesa as well.
Masvidal's lone blemish came against Rustam Khabilov at last year's Fight For the Troops 3 in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
UFC on FOX 12 will take place at the SAP Center in San Jose on July 26. The main event is still to be determined, but the main card is taking shape below it. Light heavyweights Anthony Johnson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira will go at it, as will lightweights Josh Thomson and the Blackzilians' Michael Johnson.
