Missing from the theatrics of UFC pay-per-view cards is more smoke, bells and whistles. I thought of this questioning why a growing number of fans want to see Jon Jones dethroned; after seeing him screaming around and dancing like Ray Lewis or something in his ring walk Saturday night, I understand a little more why fans feel this way towards him . If Jones is going to put on show, can’t they get some music and lights on him while he makes his way to the ring. UFC needs to embrace his gamemanship, not limit him.
Anderson Silva had some nice entrances, in particular dancing to Michael Jackson in Pride: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1V9Labzu2I
And who could forget Mayhem, but enough of him. UFC fighters could borrow a page from the sweet science, imagine if Frabricio Werdum came out to challenge Cain Valesquez in a sombrero, just like Floyd Mayweather did to Oscar De la Hoya years back:
Prince Naseem Hamed was the king of flashy ring entrances — Named and event staff had to work in coordination providing props such as flying carpets to the evening visuals. Could the UFC not set up Jones to do and entrance like this is he wanted to?
Even Anthony "Rumble" Johnson should come out to "Let’s get Ready to Rumble" flashing lights, highlights of him on jumbo screen rolling, spotlight following him to the ring, some fireworks shooting off before the big lights come on, that would be cool. I am not suggesting an overhaul, just a little smoke and some strobing lights as their names are getting announced, step it up a little. Even the Halifax Mooseheads in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League have took player entrances to another level.
