Brock Lesnar back in the Octagon?!

Rumours have been circling about a possible return of Brock Lesnar for a while now, the NCAA wrestling champion is such an extraordinary athlete that he has taken part in the WWE, NFL and UFC, something that's never been done before or since. If the rumours are true MMA fans are in for a treat from the former UFC Heavyweight Champ as he may plan to step back inside the Octagon!

If Brock Lesnar is to return, my first question would be how is his health? While he was the UFC champion Lesnar had to fight outside of the octagon with diverticulitis! He returned after taking time off to fight the illness but when he did, he wasn't the same. Brock just survived the first round of his fight with Shane Carwin, after Carwin gassed himself out Lesnar submitted him in the 2nd round. Lesnar went onto fight Cain Velasquez but only to be finished in a 1 sided beat down, losing the UFC Heavyweight title. Then once again he was made quick work of by Alistair Overeem with a swift kick to the body. Lesnar then quickly retired from the sport due to his illness. However it seems Lesnar's illness has cleared up, in a recent interview with Paul Heyman (Lesnar's on screen manager with the WWE and off screen friend) he said Brock's health is actually at 100% now, something that wasn't the case during his first run in the UFC. He even went onto say Brock was fighting at just 50% of his potential.

While George St Pierre is taking time off and injuries held back Anderson Silva, Jon Jones among others this year the UFC has suffered with a decline in PPV sales. It's no secret that the UFC needs a big name to boost sales and Lesnar may be that man! In fact the top 3 PPV sales in UFC history see Brock Lesnar in the main event! No doubt the man is a draw and he is good for business, perhaps that's why Dana White publicly said he would welcome Brock Lesnar back if he wanted to return.

Currently Brock is on an extremely cushy contract with the WWE. He is the champion on a very part time schedule and making big money. In order for the WWE to secure him it's more than likely they will offer him an even better contract than he is currently on in the near future, they could do with the help of a big name for sales as well. So here's a good question, will Lesnar want to leave the easy schedule and lots of money for painful training camps and less money? Yeah I'm not sure either!

However if Brock was really fighting at 50% of his capability then there is no denying what he did was very impressive. So seeing him compete at 100% would be compelling, however, only Lesnar really knows how bad his illness held him back. Should he really be 100% then watching him have a second run in the UFC would be a must watch for fans. This would benefit Dana and the Ferttita's not only for the sales but let's be honest here, the heavyweight division needs a spark.

In his book he describes fighting as his genuine passion, he then goes onto speak negatively about being a professional wrestler. So what will he do? Go with his passion, step back into the Octagon and get punched in the face for a living? Or take a hefty sum of money and an easy work schedule from the WWE? If he was to return there is going to be no problem finding him a fight, Frank Mir and Alistair Overeem have both said they would be willing to welcome him back. A trilogy with Frank would be great and I'm sure Lesnar would love to settle the score with Alistair. Personally I would like to see him fight in the UFC but only if he could truly compete at 100%!
