UFC 165 results: Francis Carmont snaps Costa Philippou's win streak

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

If something about Francis Carmont's victory over Costa Philippou at UFC 165 on Saturday night looked familiar, there was a reason.

Carmont, a Tri-Star fighter out of Montreal, was cornered by UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. And Carmont put in a performance Saturday at Toronto's Air Canada Centre which looked like a middleweight version of a GSP fight.

The transplanted Frenchman took Philippou early and often and controlled the fight from top position. Philippou could never get untracked as Camont went on to to a unanimous decision win. The judges' scores were 30-27, 30-27, and 30-26.

While Philippou came out in round three looking to get something down, Carmont simply took him down again a minute into the round and continued to use a clear strength advantage to frustrate Philppou on the ground.

Carmont finished with a ridiculous 12:05 in top control on the fight.

The fighter known as "Limitless" won his 11th consecutive fight and improved to 22-7. Philippou (12-3, 1 NC), in his first fight since leaving the Serra Longo Fight Club, had a five-fight losing streak snapped.
