UFC Fight Night 26 results: Travis Browne knocks out Alistair Overeem

BOSTON -- If this MMA thing doesn't work out, Travis Browne might want to take up work as an NFL punter.

In the final minute of a brutal, back-and-forth heavyweight showdown, the Jackson's MMA fighter from Hawaii cued up a picture-perfect left kick which landed flush on Alistair Overeem's jaw.

Several right hands later, referee Mario Yamasaki stopped the bout at TD Garden at 4:08 of the first round.

"The only difference about us in here and you guys out there is we're bred for about 15 minutes longer," Browne told the Boston crowd. "This fight's for you."

Overeem dominated the first half of the round and appeared to have the bout close to a stoppage. The former Strikeforce champ dropped Browne and unloaded a series of strikes, including what appeared to be a blatantly illegal knee to the face.

But Browne weathered the storm, got back to his feet, and got back into the fight.

"The thing about it, he throws knees like I never felt before," said Browne. "He gave me trouble with body shots. I was there mentally but my head was shutting down. All I did was move and move and move. As soon as I saw him slow down I made my move."

Browne won his second straight fight and improved to 15-1-1 with 11 KO/TKOs. Overeem  (35-13, 1 NC) was on the wrong end of his second straight devestating KO, to go with the one to Antonio Silva in February.

"I want to fight the best in the world right now," said Browne. "I'm coming for ya."
