BOSTON -- It's about time to give Matt Brown a shot at one of the big boys in the welterweight division. Brown certainly believes so.
One of the hottest fighters at 170 pounds -- or any weight class, for that matter -- is now the winner of six fights in a row after a swift finish of veteran Mike Pyle on Saturday night.
A big knee dropped Pyle, then Brown dropped his opponent with a series of right hands. Referee Kevin McDonald waved off the bout at Boston's TD Garden at just 29 seconds.
Five of Brown's six wins during that his current run have been via finish. Whether that should be enough for Brown to leapfrog some of the top guys is up for debate. But after the fight, he took time to call out champion Georges St-Pierre.
"Mike Pyle is really good. He's better than GSP, I guarantee that" Brown said. "That's six in a row."
Brown improved to 18-11, while Pyle, who was substituting for Thiago Alves, had a four-fight win streak snapped.
