BOSTON -- The partisan crowd at TD Garden was fired up and ready to root hometown hero Joe Lauzon to victory on Saturday night.
But Michael Johnson had other plans.
The Blackzilians fighter shut down Lauzon in their lightweight main card bout at UFC Fight Night. The judges' scores were 30-27, 30-27, and 30-25 for a unanimous decision.
In round one, Johnson picked his spots, but he made them all count. Johnson scored three knockdowns over the course of the round and Lauzon may have been saved by the horn at the end after the final time he hit the mat.
Lauzon fared better in round two, the closest of the fight, but whenever Lauzon attempted to turn up the heat, Johnson had an answer.
Whether it was Johnson's game plan, whether Lauzon has been in one too many wars, or some combo of both, Johnson poured it on in round three as Lauzon tried to find a path to victory. In case there was any doubt, which there wasn't, Johnson added a takedown in the closing second to seal the deal.
Johnson improved to 13-8 and snapped a two-fight losing streak. Lauzon is now 22-9 with losses in his past three fights.
