UFC Fight Night 26 results: Conor McGregor dominates Max Holloway

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

BOSTON -- After a rock-star like ring entrance and a crowd response usually reserved for the biggest headliners, Conor McGregor had a lot of hype to live up to Saturday night.

And while the Irish flag-waving denizens at TD Garden didn't get the spectacular finish they wanted, McGregor put on a fine all-around display of skills at UFC Fight Night, dominating Max Holloway for 15 minutes en route to a unanimous decision victory. The judges scores for the featherweight fight were 30-27, 30-27, and 30-26.

In the opening round, McGregor showed off the kickboxing flash which has made him such a sensation, keeping Holloway off-track with a variety of kicks and two-punch combos.

In round two, McGregor started off used more boxing than kicking. After the fight, McGregor said he felt his knee pop out midway through the round, which explains why he went to Plan B and took the fight to the ground at every opportunity the rest of the way.

In the third round, McGregor showed he's more than a one-trick pony, scoring effortless takedowns and showing solid transitions once they hit the floor.

"I'm at a loss for words," McGregor said. "I wanted to stand up all the way, he caught my leg in an awkward position my leg was wobbly when I got up. You live and you learn."

With that, the 25-year-old Dubliner improved 14-2 and 2-0 in the UFC. Holloway, who took the fight as a sub for Andy Ogle, dropped to 7-3 after his second straight loss.
