For the second time in his career, Edson Barboza knocked out an opponent with leg kicks. His victim at Saturday night's UFC 162 with Rafaello Oliveira, and the finish came at 1:44 of the second.
It was a wonder Oliveira even made it that long, as he was noticeably limping by the time the first was over, and struggled his way into the second round. Barboza landed nearly 30 leg strikes in the first, and continued his assault when the action restarted.
Finally, less than two minutes in, he drilled Oliveira with another kick that crumpled him. Ref Herb Dean immediately waved off the fight.
According to UFC announcer Joe Rogan, Barboza is the first man in UFC history to finish two opponents with leg kicks.
"Yeah man, that's my game," Barboza said afterward. "First fight in UFC same thing, knocked a guy out in third round with leg kicks, and now, one more time."
Barboza pulled the same trick against Mike Lullo at UFC 123 back in Nov. 2010.
The win was Barboza's second straight. He's now 12-1 overall and 6-1 in the UFC.
Oliveira fell to 15-6 with the defeat. He had to be helped backstage, as he was unable to walk on his own power.
