UFC 162 Undercard Live Blog: Leben vs. Craig, Parke vs. Tokudome

Chris Leben's fight against Andrew Craig headlines the UFC 162 undercard. - Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

This is the UFC 162 undercard live blog for the UFC 162 event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

There will be six fights on the UFC 162 undercard. Chris Leben vs. Andrew Craig, Norman Parke vs. Kazuki Tokudome, Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Dave Herman, Edson Barboza vs. Rafaello Oliveira, Seth Baczynski vs. Brian Melancon, and Mike Pierce vs. David Mitchell will be featured on the prelims.

Mike Pierce vs. David Mitchell

Round 1: Steve Mazzagatti is the referee for this one. A Mike Pierce-like start to the fight as he pushes Mitchell against the fence and holds him there. Crowd starts jeering after about a minute of this. The come off the fence but maintain the clinch. Finally they break. Pierce lands a left and again rushes Mitchell into the fence. Mitchell escapes and lands a two-punch combo before Pierce ties him up again. Two minutes left. Mitchell lands a few knees in the clinch, including one to the head. The pace picks up for a bit in the final minute as they trade punches before Pierce bodylocks him against the fence. MMAFighting scores the round for Mike Pierce, 10-9.

Round 2: More of the same in the opening minute, as Pierce controls Mitchell along the fence, but can't get him to the mat. Mitchell circles out to center octagon and lands a couple punches before they clinch again. Mitchell landing knees from that position. And just like, that, a surprise finish. After Pierce again pushes Mitchell along the fence, he suddenly pulls back tags Mitchell with a left on the button, then lands several hammer fists on the downed Mitchell to end the fight.

Seth Baczynski vs. Brian Melancon

Round 1: Yves Levigne is the referee. Melancon snaps a low kick and connects with a left hand. He follows with a left hand to the body. Melancon again connects with a left to the jaw of the taller Baczynski. Baczynski's finally firing back. Melancon blocks a Baczynski high kick. Melancon drops Baczynski with a left to the jaw. Can't put him away, though, as Baczynski keeps his legs moving on the ground. Back standing. Baczynaksi connects on a counter left to the jaw. Melancon shoots a single and gets the takedown. Melancon can't get much done from that position, but in the closing seconds, he rushes in and lands a series of shots, including a huge left to the jaw which puts Baczynski out.

Edson Barboza vs. Rafaello Oliveira

Round 1: Herb Dean's the referee for this lightweight bout. Oliveira trying to dart in and out early. Barboza greets him with leg kicks, and connects with a solid kick to the body. Barboza sprawls Oliveira's first two takedown attempts. Such efficient kicking by Barboza. He hands a spinning back kick to the midsection. Another failed takedown attempt by Oliveira. Two minutes left. Barboza keeps moving every time Oliveira tries to close the distance. One minute left. Oliveira must be beyond frustrated by this point. Oliveira noticeably limping after Barboza lands a wicked leg kick. Barboza grazes Oilveira with a spinning back kick to the head near the horn. An inch closer and Oliveira would have been looking up at the lights. MMAFighting scores the round for Edson Barboza, 10-9.

Round 2: Frantic action early as Barboza drops Oliveira, then Oliveira gets up and returns the favor. Oliveira hits the mat after Barboza drops him with a leg kick. Barboza is content to keep it standing. Barboza lands two more kicks to the inside of Oliveira's knee, he hits the mat again, and Dean waves it off. Looks like a blown out knee for Oliveira.

Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Dave Herman

Round 1: Kim Winslow is the referee for this heavyweight fight. Herman goes for a leg kick, Gonzaga cracks him with a right hook to the jaw which drops him. He lands several hammerfists before Winslow is able to jump in and stop it.

Norman Parke vs. Kazuki Tokudome

Round 1: Steve Mazzagatti is the referee for this lightweight fight. Park with a high kick and a low kick. Tokudome responds with a sharp two-punch combo. Both fighters moving in and out and mixing up punches and kicks, with Parke partial to looping overhands. Both fighters landing shots and neither giving up an inch. Midway through we get a grappling contest, which ends up with Park scoring a takedown. Tokudome right back to his feet. Parke with another takedown, but Tokudome quickly reverses position. Parke doing a solid job defending from the bottom, landing a pair of elbows. Onem inute left. Tokudome improves his position and throws a big elbows. Parke escapes and now he's on top of Tokudome. MMAFighting scores the round for Norman Parke, 10-9.

Round 2: Parke lands a huge counter right to the jaw which briefly drops Tokudome. He connects with another right and a third one, but Tokudome looks tough as nails in shaking them off. Parke a head kick which knocks Tokudome off-balance and a series of lefts to the jaw. Tokudome just rolls with it. Parke with a takedown at the round's midpoint. Tokudome works his way back to his feet. They break, Tokudome connects with a solid running knee and Parke immediately scored a takedown. One minute left. Tokudome on his hands and knees, with Parke basically holding him in a facelock. They're standing again late, but neither goes for broke in the closing seconds. MMAFighting scores the round for Norman Parke, 10-9 (20-18 overall).

Round 3: They touch gloves to start round three. Then they start swinging and mostly missing. Parke grabs a single, Tokudome hops backwards on one leg to sprawl it. Then Tokudome scores a takedown, in spite of Parke's best fence-grabbing efforts. Back to their feet, where the clinch and switch position several times. Parke goes for a takedown, but Tokudome is in top position when they hit the mat. They're back to their feet midway through the round. Tokduome lands a head kick. Then another one, followed by a four-punch combo. Tokudome charges at Parke and scores a takedown, but Parke's right back up. This is easily Tokudome's best round. But he probably needs a finish and hasn't come close. One minute left. A flurry of action as the round ends. MMAFighting scores the round for Kazuki Tokudome, 10-9 (29-28 Parke overall).

Chris Leben vs. Andrew Craig

Round 1: Yves Levigne is the referee for this lightweight matchup. Leben rushes forward and an early scramble ends inconclusively. Leben goes for a single with Craig against the fence and lands it. Back to their feet. Craig lands a knee and pushes Leben away. Leben pushes forward and opens up with a pair of punches and a knee, which gets a rise from the crowd, but Craig clinches him. Craig with a standing elbow. Craig with a right hand, Leben answers with a left. Craig with a head kick and a right hand which wobbles Leben. Still, Leben pushes forward. One minute left. Leben with another takedown. Craig right back up. Both guys fling wild punches, Leben lands an uppercut. Back to center octagon. Leben sprawls a late takedown attempt. MMAFighting scores the round for Chris Leben, 10-9.

Round 2: Leben fires a left at the outset. Fires another one and misses bad. They clinch along the fence awhile, with neither fighter able to accomplish much. Craig lands a knee from a Thai clinch. Leben shakes it off. Craig shakes off a Leben takedown attempt. Midway through the round. Craig is backing away when Leben charges and Leben is noticeably slower when he moves forward. Both guys picking their spots. Craig connects with a solid leg kick. Some dirty boxing, with Leben landing the more solid blows. Leben still pressing forward. MMAFighting scores the round for Andrew Craig, 10-9 (19-19 overall).

Round 3: A firefight in the early going. Craig rocks Leben and drops him to the mat. Leben is trying to hang on as Craig lands several shots. Leben gets back to his feet. A "Leben" chant comes in waves through the crowd. Craig rope-a-dopes Leben, who is bleeding around his nose. They break. Craig takes a deep breath as Leben moves forward. Craig tags and drops Leben again. Two minutes left. Leben again back to his feet. The crowd approves. Craig backpedals and makes Leben come after him. Craig with a takedown with just over a minute left. He moves Leben back toward the fence. Craig with another takedown as the seconds wind down. MMAFighting scores the round for Andrew Craig, 10-9 (29-28 overall).
