Liz Carmouche's road back to another title shot has begun. In her first fight since giving Ronda Rousey the toughest test of her career, Carmouche shined, battering Jessica Andrade into a second-round TKO at UFC on FOX 8.
The finish came at 3:57.
Carmouche controlled most of the fight, and truly dominated almost the entirety of the second round. Carmouche scored a takedown 20 seconds in, earned full mount one minute into the round, and had Andrade trapped for the remainder of the match.
In looking for the finish, Carmouche threw everything at her disposal at Andrade, with punches and elbows at every open spot. At one point, she seemed to sink in a rear naked choke, but Andrade managed to snake her way out, only to take more damage.
Ref Herb Dean watched the action closely for more than a minute, waiting for the moment when Andrade stopped defending herself. The game Brazilian never quite did, but Carmouche clearly had checkmate as she rained down strikes from the top, and Dean finally called it.
Carmouche, who has won three of her last four, is now 9-3.
In dropping her UFC debut, Andrade has an identical 9-3 mark.
