SEATTLE -- The eight contestants for the network television main card on Saturday night's UFC on FOX 8 event at Key Arena made weight on Friday.
This includes the evening's main eventers, flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson (17-2-1) and challenger John Moraga (13-1). Both Johnson, fighting in his hometown of Seattle, and Arizona's Moraga checked in at 124.5, a half-pound under the flyweight title-fight weight limit.
While the main carders made weight without issue, three undercard competitors missed weight:
*Jorge Masvidal, who has talked lots of trash leading up to his FX headline bout with Michael Chiesa, came in at 157.5 for their lightweight bout. Masvidal, who complained about Chiesa's unruly beard, said he was going to file a complaint with the Washington commission. But Chiesa tweeted in the moments before the weigh-in that he spoke to the commission and was cleared to fight with his beard as is. While Masvidal initially decided against another weight cut, he changed his mind and made the limit.
*Tim Means came in at 160 for his FX bout against Danny Castillo. A gaunt-looking Means also chose to accept a fine of 20 percent of his purse and fight at a catchweight rather than attempt a further weight cut.
*John Albert, who meets Yaotzin Meza in the afternoon's opening bout, came up a pound short for their bantamweight bout, clocking in at 137. Albert attempted an additional cut and missed weight a second time before giving up and taking the fine.
