I read last night that fighters on the undercard might make $8k to fight and potentially another $8k if they win. The article went on to say that didn't include paying trainers and taxes, etc. According to the NEA, the average salary for a first year teacher here in Ohio is $33k (and that's not factoring in taxes, insurance and all the other costs of living either). Assuming the fighter fights four times a year and loses each fight he's still on par with a teacher. There are a few ways to look at these numbers. First, people can make data say whatever they want it to say. Second, you shouldn't choose a profession based solely on money but ideally on passion. These fighters are doing what they love (supposedly). And let me tell you, there are no $50k bonus opportunities each time I show up for work.
