3 Losses that helped fighters the most

Most fighters assert that they learn more from losses than victories, and there are some fights that really altered some fighters careers more than others. Three that come to mind are the following:

1. Randy Couture's defeats to Josh Barnett and Ricco Rodriguez. These two losses made Couture realize that perhaps a drop down to 205 would be a good idea. And Couture did in the end decide to drop down to 205 and kickstarted his career again at age 39. He was able to win the interim belt against Chuck Liddell and then unify the belt against Tito Ortiz.

2. Tito Ortiz' loss to Frank Shamrockk After being defeated by Shamrock after gassing out, Oetiz realized the importance of cardio and having his conditioning in tip top form. From then he made it a point to make sure his cardio was a strength as opposed to a weakness and he went on to win the light-heavyweight title and set the record for most defenses.

3. GSP losing to Matt Serra After being taken out by Matt Serra in the biggest upset in UFC history, GSP realized the importance of being prepared and training hard for every single opponent; not taking anyone lightly. He realized that confidence comes from being prepared and since that point he makes sure he does everything possible in training. He avenged the loss, won back the belt, and defended it eight times.
