As MMA's kissing cousins like amateur wrestling and professional jiu-jitsu begin to understand the value of promotion (in addition to learning how to promote properly) more and more events that are nothing but a card filled with superfights are beginning to emerge.
The last time there was a Metamoris event, there was even a submission of the night bonus for $5,000.
Metamoris I saw jiu-jitsu stands outs like Roger Gracie, Dean Lister, Xande Ribeiro, Caio Terra, Jeff Glover, Andre Galvao and many others compete in the inaugural event at the Viejas Arena, in San Diego, CA. Full full results and recap of the event, go here.
The tournament is designed to match the world's best competitors (with some name value) against each other with rules that force submission attempts and finishes. As for understanding what's going on, the rules are simple:
1. Match length is 20 minutes.
2. No points are scored.
3. Win is via submission or decision.
4. If no submission happens and time expires, it will go to a panel of three judges for a decision.
Watch the trailer for the upcoming event above. The event will be streamed online at a price of $19.95 at www.metamoris.com beginning at 4 p.m. PT.
